For us as professional wedding photographers in Charlotte this has not been frequent but every few years or so someone would contact us to shoot their wedding in places other than a traditional wedding venue or church. In the past 8 years this has happen once but one place I have provided wedding photography that I would not suggest is in a backyard. In my opinion as a wedding photographer visual appeal is extremely important. In most cases a backyard wedding is not that beautiful unless the backyard is on a body of water with a lot of land. For the wedding to be in a mansion would not hurt either. Outside of the fact it might disturb the neighbors most people do not have the land and budget to make a backyard wedding work. Of course that is only my opinion as a wedding photographer.
